Ken Richards, the father of Richards, played basketball for Birmingham-Southern College before going on to play professionally in Bolivia, Iceland, and Australia.
Richards was invited to participate in the MNT Youth National Team Summit Camp in January 2018, which brought together 153 players from the U16, U17, U18, U19, and U20 Youth National Teams.
He played his first game for the United States U20 squad against Honduras in May 2018.
Richards was selected on November 12, 2018, as one of the three substitutions permitted before to the start of the “Qualification Stage” for the 2018 CONCACAF U-20 Championship.
Then, he started two of the tournament’s final three games, including Mexico’s 2-0 victory in the championship game.
