Taiwanese-Canadian billionaire Joseph Tsai makes his money through his businesses.
The majority of his wealth comes from his 1.4% stake in Alibaba Group, China’s multinational technology company.
The company had revenue of 853 billion yuan ($133 billion) and 1 billion active customers in the year to March 31, 2022, according to the company’s 2022 annual report.

Joe Tsai joined the company in 1999 as a member of the Alibaba founding team and has served on the board of directors since its inception.
He was a chief financial officer until 2013 and is currently the executive vice chairman.
Before co-founding Alibaba Group, Tsai practiced tax law as an associate with Sullivan & Cromwell LLP and worked for Investor AB of Sweden’s Wallenberg family.
Joe Tai also earns a substantial amount from the Brooklyn Nets of the American National Basketball Association (NBA), the New York Liberty of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and the San Diego Seals of the National Lacrosse League.
