Al “Bubba” Baker (born December 9， 1956 in Jacksonville， Florida) is a former American football defensive lineman in the National Football League. During his career， he was named to three Pro Bowls. He won the Defensive Rookie of the Year award in 1978. He would go on to become one of the “Silver Rush’s” most famous anchors. Baker， a product of Newark’s Weequahic High School and Colorado State University， was selected by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the 1978 NFL Draft. He was listed at 6-6 and 250 pounds， and he had a combination of speed and strength. He made an early impression in the NFL， with 23 sacks (an unofficial statistic at the time) in his debut season with the Lions， including five sacks in a single game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This is a team record that has stood the test of time. He spent five seasons with the Lions， starting 66 of 67 games. When sacks became an official statistic in 1982， his final season with the Lions， he totaled eight point five in only nine games. With the Lions， he also recorded two career interceptions. From 1983 through 1986， he spent four seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals， racking up 13， 10， 4， and 10.5 sacks per season. The sack-master has the highest three single-season sack totals in the franchise’s history. In 1983， he had 13 sacks and two interceptions to go along with his 13 sacks. In 1987， he was a reserve defence lineman for the Cleveland Browns， and in 1988， he was a reserve defence lineman for the Minnesota Vikings. He started all 16 games for the Browns in 1989， as well as all nine games he played for the Browns in 1990， his final NFL season at the age of 34.
