Nigerian-New Zealander professional mixed martial artist, kickboxer, and former boxer with multiple championships in all three disciplines Isreal Adesanya boasts of an impressive record in the UFC.
In 23 fights, he has achieved 21 wins, 15 by way of knock out, 8 by unanimous decision and has suffered just two losses.
His second loss was to Brazilian Alex Pereira in a mouthwaterng bout at the Madson Square Garden whch took place on Saturday Nov. 12, 2022.
Adesanya had the upper hand for a large amount of the fight.
However, his dominance was halted in the fifth round, when Pereira landed some huge blows that left Adesanya a little wobbly on his feet.
Though Pereira didn’t knock down Adesanya, the referee stopped the fight and Pereira was declared the winner.
Madison Square Garden erupted as Marc Goddard stepped in to declare Pereira winner.
Adesanya pleaded his innocence to the referee and believed the stoppage was too soon – something he addressed in the post-fight press conference.
“I was fine. I could see everything happening. My eyes might have rolled back a little bit, but I was lucid,” he said.
