Despite saying it came “nearly a quarter of a century too late,” the woman at the center of the proceedings against disgraced footballer Barry Cable has welcomed the decision to have him removed from the Australian Football Hall of Fame.

The announcement comes as the now-79-year-old Cable’s former team, North Melbourne Football Club, who he played and subsequently coached, also announced that it will remove him from its Hall of Fame.

A Perth judge determined earlier this month that Cable sexually assaulted the lady as a young girl beginning when she was just 12 years old.

Why was Barry Cable removed from the AFL Hall of Fame? – Following the finding in Western Australia’s District Court that Cable had frequently sexually abused the girl during his playing career, AFL Commission Chair Richard Goyder made the announcement that the commission had decided to exclude Cable from the Hall of Fame at its meeting in Melbourne.
